Extramural Fellow Positions
CentER created the “Extramural Fellow” position as a means of promoting contact and collaboration with external (business) economists and researchers in affiliated disciplines. Unlike an "affiliated" member of CentER, an Extramural Fellow is not affiliated with the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration at Tilburg University, but with another Tilburg University faculty or a faculty of economics or business at another university, either in the Netherlands or abroad.
While both Visitors and Extramural Fellows sometimes teach courses in the graduate programs for M.Phil and Ph.D. students, Extramural Fellows maintain a long-term commitment to CentER, cultivate an ongoing collaboration with one or more of CentER's researchers, and visit CentER every year.
Eligibility criteria: To be considered for an Extramural Fellowship, applicants must satisfy the admission criteria for fellowship of the graduate school (see Membership of CentER), and must be affiliated with another Tilburg University faculty or an economics or business faculty of another university.
Benefits of Extramural Fellowship:
- A per diem allowance of €50 and, in some cases, paid accommodation
- The opportunity to contribute to CentER's Discussion Paper series
- The opportunity to maintain and strengthen contact with CentER's researchers and reap the rewards of collaboration
- The opportunity to teach courses in the CentER graduate school
- The opportunity to make use of CentER's outstanding research and support facilities
- The opportunity to participate in CentER's ongoing projects
Commitments of Extramural Fellowship: Extramural Fellows must agree to collaborate with at least one regular CentER researcher; visit CentER for at least five days per year; and make a positive contribution to the research activities of at least one of CentER's research groups.
Nomination Procedure: Research Coordinators make recommendations for prospective Extramural Fellows to the Scientific Director, who evaluates the nominees’ qualifications. The final decision to appoint an Extramural Fellow is made by the CentER Management Team.
Remuneration: Extramural Fellows from within the Netherlands, but not affiliated with Tilburg University, may be offered a per diem allowance of € 50 for each day spent at CentER (usually limited to a certain number of days per year), office space, and accommodation at the Auberge (usually limited to a certain number of nights per year). Extramural Fellows from outside the Netherlands may be offered a per diem allowance of € 50 for each day they spend at CentER, office space, accommodation at the Auberge (usually limited to a certain number of nights per year), and travel expenses within certain limits. All terms and conditions must be agreed in advance by the directors and the respective research group, resulting in an individual agreement for each Extramural Fellow.
